MEETINGS 2020 - 2021

Solidarity, Safety and Speaking up on Set

October 7th, 11:00am-1:00pm EST @ Zoom

A lot has been going on in the industry over the past couple of months: from the IATSE union strike (temporarily averted?), to labor issues, and of course safety on set with the recent tragedy on the movie 'Rust'.

We will have with us guest Gillian Albinski, a Props Master based in Charlotte NC (Outer Banks, The Walking Dead, Homeland), who can talk about guns and safety concerns.

We would also like to have a broader discussion about speaking up on set - safety or otherwise. Do you feel solidarity with other crew members when something doesn't feel right or fair? Have you taken concerns to somebody like the shop steward?  How did the potential union strike, and the 'Rust’ tragedy affect attitudes and relationships with other departments on set? Has this current climate affected the non-union world as well?

Bryant Park Social

July 11th, 11:00am-1:00pm EST @ Reading Room Area

NYSSN will be holding our first in-person meeting in over a year with a return to Bryant Park! We will be able to socially distance and enjoy the outdoors. Masks are optional, and to each person's comfort level.

There will be an informal discussion about the growing workload of script supervisors, and the concept of assistance for a "One-Person Department".

Faces, inter-personal engagement and a cool drink of choice are welcome!

Kit Rental Meeting

March 7th, 11:00am-12:30pm EST @ Zoom

Following on from a recent email thread, Sean Pollock will be sharing the Excel Kit Rental Worksheet that he uses to create an inventory list for both negotiating, as well as for submitting with start paperwork. (This is an updated version of the one currently on our website.)

The demo will take about 40 mins and we will follow with an open discussion about kit rentals for those who want to stick around and talk further.

2021 // NYSSN / LASSN Bicoastal Social

February 28th, 2pm EST / 11am PST @ Zoom

The NY and LA SSNs are coming together for the first time in a joint virtual mixer where we will talk script supe stuff in our East and West coast communities and see how the other half lives!

We're going to attempt a rotating breakout rooms format to encourage that true mixer spirit and keep things unpredictable. Just pretend we've booked out a bunch of tables in your favorite bar (remember those times?)

Join us for good vibes and conversation (with hopefully minimal technological difficulties)!

Back to Work on a Covid set

December 6th, 11-1pm @ Zoom

A lot of people have returned to work in some form or another. What is your experience working in the new landscape? Has the way you work changed a lot or not at all? Is your production doing all you expected them to do in terms of safety and protocol? How are positive tests and communication being handled? Let's discuss successes, inconsistencies and frustrations.
